Ascension scholars in grades 5-7 can join a new activity to learn life skills and entrepreneurship: Cake Therapy.
Ascension is one of four schools piloting the program. It’s not about eating your troubles away. The 36-week curriculum teaches baking skills along with financial independence, mindfulness and self-esteem. Mentors who are attorneys, physicians and social workers are all part of the program. The program’s creator, Dr. Altreisha Foster, author of the memoir “Cake Therapy: How Baking Changed My Life,” said the nonprofit foundation is about giving back the community.
Her children, nieces and nephews attend Ascension School. “Empowering lives through the alchemy of baking, we stir resilience, sprinkle joy and bake the path to a future where every[body] rises,” she writes.
