Good morning, everyone.
Week 31 Christian Character Trait: FAIR… Seeing a situation from the viewpoint of each person involved.
Weekly Scripture Matthew 7:12: Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.
Daily Announcement:
April: Arab American heritage month… U.S. Air Force Colonel James Jabara:
James Jabara, son of Lebanese immigrants, was the first American jet ace in history. During World War II, Jabara flew two tours of combat duty in Europe. He took down his first jet on April 3, 1951, followed by more on April 10, April 12, April 22, and May 20. Those qualified him as a “jet ace,” meaning he took down five or more jets as a fighter pilot.
For his heroism during World War II, Jabara was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Medal with 18 Oak Leaf Clusters. While in Korea, he received the Distinguished Service Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster and an Oak leaf Cluster to the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Minneapolis Gap Funds for housing... eligible expenses include: rent payments (late rent and rent due within 15 days), utility payments and other housing stability related costs. The application will likely be available on the gap funding page. Applications will be accepted beginning at 9 am on Wednesday, April 22nd through 12noon Monday, April 27th. The city anticipates these funds will go fast so we encourage families who think they may be eligible to apply early in the process. Ascension will not be able to determine if you qualify for this assistance, please go to the linked website to obtain eligibility information. Thank you.
Scholars who were MacPhail participants prior to the mandated school closure should make sure they join Ascension’s MacPhail Google Classroom if they haven’t already. Parents, scholars may post a request within the MacPhail Google Classroom for additional remote support from their MacPhail teacher (help tuning their instrument, a lesson, etc.).
Thursday, April 23, from 10:00 am – 12noon “grab and go” boxes of food will be in the parking lot of the main school building. We are attempting to minimize in-person contact so there may or may not be an Ascension staff person present in the parking lot during the 10 am – 12noon window of time… please feel free to pull into the parking lot and take 1 box of food for every four people in your family (1 box = 2 “target bags” of food… a reference for those who have picked up food in previous weeks). We will have the boxes of food in the parking lot by 10 am and we will remove whatever boxes are remaining at 12noon. All are welcome!
Our prayers for you continue, and we are requesting prayers from our community of supporters for each Academy scholar. We ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers as well.
Make it a wonderful day!
– Mr. Matias
